First Kazakh President and leader of the ruling Nur Otan party Nursultan Nazarbayev has decided to resign and has suggested that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev should be the new party leader, Nazarbayev's press secretary Aidos Ukibai said, Interfax reports.
“Nursultan Nazarbayev has decided at an expanded meeting of the Political Council to hand over the position of chairman of the Nur Otan party and has underlined that the country's president should lead the party,” Ukibai said on Twitter.
“The transfer of power will be accomplished consistent with the party's charter,” he said.
