Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, his Russian counterpart Sergey Ryabkov, and US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley have agreed during a telephonic conversation to assist in the political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday, TASS reported.
“China, Russia, and the United States have agreed to continue to maintain contacts to advance the process of a political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
During the aforesaid telephonic conversation, Ma recalled the need to comply with the agreements on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue, since this is “an important result of multilateral diplomatic efforts” supported by the UN Security Council.
“Moreover, this is a key support for the international system of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons,” the Chinese diplomat emphasized. He recalled that peace and stability in the Middle East depend on whether this agreement is observed.
“At the upcoming talks in Vienna, each of the stakeholders should maintain an active pragmatic position, show respect for mutual interests, create a suitable atmosphere for this agreement to be restored as soon as possible,” concluded Ma Zhaoxu.
