Russia displayed a prototype of its new fifth-generation single-engine warplane, the "Checkmate", outside of the country for the first time on Monday at the Dubai Airshow in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Reuters reports.
The aircraft boasts low visibility, high flight performance, and artificial intelligence assistance for the pilot, according to the plane's developers from the Rostec State Corporation, a Russian high-tech conglomerate.
The Checkmate will use the same engine and avionics as Russia's fifth-generation heavyweight twin-engine fighter Su-57, which ensures the speedy development of the new jet, said Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec.
A Su-75 Checkmate will cost 25-30 million U.S. dollars, making it relatively affordable on the international weaponry market, he added.
Local media reports stated that it will take five and a half years before the first aircraft can be delivered to customers.
At present, the Su-75 fighter is in the research and development and testing stages. It is expected to fly for the first time in 2023 while batches look to be delivered in 2026.
The Rostec State Corporation said that they are negotiating with UAE companies to jointly produce the Su-75 Checkmate and will also plan to manufacture the unmanned type of the aircraft in the future.
"This is the fifth-generation aircraft and at a reasonable competitive price," said an interpreter for the Russian spokesman of the Su-75 Checkmate.
Analysts have said that the Su-75 warplane has the advantages of high flight performance and an attractive price, which will draw strong interest from potential customers in the Middle East.
