The United Nations General Assembly declared November 6 as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict on November 5, 2001.
The importance of celebrating November 6 was felt especially in the recent Artsakh war, international structures recorded. White phosphorus was used against Armenians. There were victims, forests burned. On November 4, US senators demanded that the State Department and the Pentagon provide information on the use of white phosphorus in the recent Artsakh war.
In the US Senate, during the discussions of the “US National Defense Authorization Act”, Senators Robert Menendez and Alex Padilla presented offers on legislative changes. One of those demands to supply information on the usage of American technologies of Turkish UAV “Bayraktar”. According to the other offer, the relevant bodies must evaluate whether the usage of American technologies by the third country does not violate the American law. By the third offer of the legislative change, which was presented by Alex Padilla the State and Defense departments are required to present a cooperative report on the military crimes by Azerbaijan during the 2020 Artsakh war, including the usage of American technologies, white phosphorus, cluster munitions and other prohibited weapons, also the involvement of foreign mercenaries.
As long as the legislature of the superpower discusses the issue of depriving Azerbaijan of military assistance because of these crimes, the Human Rights Defender of that country makes the same accusations against Armenians. On the occasion of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, Sabina Aliyeva addressed international organizations, claiming that Armenians had damaged Azerbaijan's nature during the recent 30 years since the first Artsakh war.
By the way, neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan is for the Convention on the prohibition of military or any other hostile use of environmental modification techniques. Turkey signed the convention in 1977 but did not ratify it, and Azerbaijan does not seem to intend to join. The largest international conference COP 26 is being held in Scotland these days, November 6 has been declared Nature Day. Leaders of about 100 countries and international organizations attend the conference.
