At a weekly briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova praised the progress made in fulfilling the trilateral agreements on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of November 9.
“The works continue in all directions. The approaching anniversary of the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and the adoption of a statement by the leaders of the three countries on the cessation of battles was discussed on November 1 during talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Foreign Minister of Armenia and on November 2 – with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan. The ministers agreed in their assessments that the situation in the region has stabilized over the past year, and the ceasefire is generally maintained,” Zakharova said.
She noted that the role of Russian peacekeepers is highly appreciated in Baku and Yerevan. Some incidents are regulated through cooperation between the two sides. Work is underway to unblock transport links.
“On October 20, the 8th meeting of the trilateral working group took place in Moscow, co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of the countries. The contacts continue through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Border Services. We see a comprehensive solution to the problem with the soonest start of the delimitation process on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, with its further demarcation. Of course, active work is being done on the OSCE Minsk Group, about which the Co-Chairs regularly inform us in relevant press releases,” Zakharova said.
To the question whether it is possible to sign any new documents, the Spokeswoman answered that she does not have such information.
Zakharova also noted that the regular trilateral session of the Joint Commission on Unblocking Communications in the region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia) will take place on November 29.
