On October 25-26, a workshop dedicated to the increase of the role of the parliamentarians of the member states of the International Organization of the Francophonie (IOF) in the Universal Periodic Review process under the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council was held in Geneva. The UN Human Rights Committee, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the IOF and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie are the organizers.
The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan and the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Meri Galstyan participated in the workshop with thirty-two parliamentarians of sixteen countries.
During the workshop, the participation of stakeholders in the stages of the development of the Universal Periodic Review was highlighted. The necessity of the parliamentarians’ work in the relevant stages of the development of the national review was underlined from the viewpoint of having a practical and substantive contribution.
