Today, the Russian Rosselkhoznadzor, unexpectedly for many market participants, banned the supply of fresh mandarins from Turkey, using as an excuse the exceeding of permissible levels of the pesticide Chlorpyrifos in just one batch of Turkish citrus fruits.
Later, the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkey, explained that the ban applies to only one company, however, the wording on the Rosselkhoznadzor website is not very clear, and no explanations have yet been received from the official bodies of the Russian Federation.
Experts of the produce market almost immediately called this decision politically motivated. Indeed, even in the text of the resolution itself, there is no question of systematic violations, but only a reference to one batch of products is given.
