On October 19, the RA NA Vice President, the Head of the RA NA Delegation to PACE Ruben Rubinyan received the Head of the Rapporteur Group on Democracy of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE), the Permanent Representative of Sweden to the CoE, Ambassador Mårten Ehnberg and the delegation led by him. The members of the RA NA delegation to PACE Vladimir Vardanyan and Sona Ghazaryan also took part in the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, Ruben Rubinyan highlighted the cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as highly assessed the support of the organization in the process of the democratic reforms going on in our country.
The issues regarding the Artsakh 44-day war, its humanitarian consequences, the immediate return of Armenian captives being held in Azerbaijan were discussed. The Armenian parliamentarians voiced about the anti-Armenian campaign by Azerbaijan, and in that context indicated the consequences, which could be dangerous for the stable development of the region. Ruben Rubinyan has noted that though by November 9 tripartite statement the military actions have stopped, nevertheless the situation continues remaining unstable. It is because of Azerbaijan’s non-fulfilment of commitments assumed by the stamen, aspirations towards the sovereign territories of Armenia and the new threat of using force.
The democratic reforms going on in different directions in Armenia were touched upon. Speaking about the ongoing reforms in judicial-legal system, the CoE representatives expressed readiness to support the improvement of the independent judicial system in Armenia.
The Ambassadors of France, Russia, Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Andorra, Iceland to the CoE and the representatives of the CoE Secretariat also arrived in Armenia in the delegation.
