General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Ministry of Defense of Russia reports.
Cooperation between Moscow and Tehran is consistently developing, the positions of the parties on key issues of global and regional security coincide, said Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov.
“Russian-Iranian cooperation continues to develop consistently. Despite the difficult situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, our contacts remain quite intensive,” General of the Army Valery Gerasimov said during talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri.
Valery Gerasimov noted the similar approaches of Moscow and Tehran to the solution of the main issues of global and regional security.
“On most of the key issues on the regional and global agenda, our positions coincide or are very close,” he said.
According to the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Iran is Russia's closest partner, the parties are ready to coordinate approaches on a wide range of issues.
“Relations between our countries are based on long-term traditions of friendship and cooperation. They are distinguished by a high level of trusting political dialogue and mutual understanding, their readiness to coordinate approaches on a wide range of issues of mutual interest,” Valery Gerasimov said.
He expressed confidence that "the stay of the Iranian delegation in Russia will be rich and fruitful."
“I propose to discuss the most important aspects of interaction between our Armed Forces,” said the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, opening the meeting.
In turn, Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri noted that Iran and Russia have the potential to expand bilateral ties, this can be facilitated by the relations established between the military departments of the two countries.
“In recent years, our bilateral cooperation has been steadily expanding. However, we have opportunities for further expanding our relationship,” said Mohammad Hossein Bagheri during talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov on Monday.
According to him, the growing ties between the armed forces of Iran and Russia can serve as an additional impetus for expanding cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.
The military leader named the cooperation of his country with the Russian Federation on the Syrian track in the fight against international terrorism as an example of fruitful bilateral relations.
