On October 18, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia Narek Mkrtchyan received Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin.
Highly appreciating the cooperation with the EU, Narek Mkrtchyan reaffirmed the readiness to expand the scope of cooperation in order to make the jointly implemented programs more effective and targeted.
Touching upon the main program directions of the cooperation, the Minister highlighted the elaboration of the Armenia-EU indicative program aimed at neutralizing the socio-economic consequences in the post-war coronavirus situation.
According to Narek Mkrtchyan, the ministry actively participates in the development of the document, in the process of setting priorities, especially in the areas of improving the rights of vulnerable groups, women and people with disabilities.
“Within the framework of cooperation with the EU, we are working on programs for the empowerment of women and girls. In fact, this is one of the important components of our demographic policy. We continue to promote women's leadership through various programs,” said the Minister.
Andrea Wiktorin praised the process and results of the jointly implemented programs and expressed readiness to continue the necessary efforts in the development of the social protection sector.
“In order to have the desired progress, we must take successful examples as a basis and develop them. Recognizing that there are many challenges facing the Armenian government in the post-war period in the fight against coronavirus, we are ready to support as much as we can,” Wiktorin said.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue active work on the discussed programs.
