On October 14, Ararat Mirzoyan, the Foreign Minister of Armenia participated in the session of the Council of the foreign ministers of the CIS member states in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
During the event, which was held in narrow and then enlarged format, in the context of the further development of the organization, the heads of the foreign ministries of the CIS member states exchanged thoughts on regional and international issues, had a detailed discussion on the issues of cultural, humanitarian and commercial-economic cooperation within the CIS.
The foreign ministers summed up the implemented work and programs for the past 30 years since the foundation, observed the development prospects of the CIS and the prior directions of the activity.
During the session, referring to the further development of the organization, Minister Mirzoyan stressed the right of people to equality and self-determination, the right to sovereignty, reflected in the basic documents of the CIS, the inviolability of the state borders, and the importance of the peaceful settlement of the conflicts.
The above mentioned was stressed in the contexts of Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh. Valuing the provisions of the tripartite statement on November 9, particularly the immediate release of the Armenian captives of war and the necessity of preserving Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage under the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Mirzoyan also mentioned that the comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Co-Chairs will greatly contribute to the establishment of long-lasting peace in South Caucasus.
With the results of the CIS court session, a number of announcements were made, which will be presented for the approval of the Council of the CIS member states.
During the meeting, the 2022 program of the multilevel consultations between the foreign ministries within the CIS were agreed, the announcement of the CIS member state foreign ministers on strengthening the convention of the prohibition of the biological and toxic weapons, the decision of the CIS member states to establish basic organization to research issues of countering terrorism, other manifestations of extremism and other documents.
