The gas contract between the Russian monopoly Gazprom and the Hungarian energy company MVM does not violate European law. This was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, reports Reuters on Tuesday 12 October, Perild reports.
“EU member states are free to conclude bilateral agreements. As far as I know, there is nothing illegal in the deal between Hungary and Gazprom, nothing that would run counter to European legislation,” Borrell stressed.
As a reminder, on September 27, the Hungarian company MVM Group and Gazprom in Budapest signed a contract for the supply of gas to Hungary bypassing Ukraine. The agreement is designed for 15 years with the possibility of changing the volume of gas purchases in 10 years.
As early as October 1, Gazprom began supplying gas to Hungary bypassing Ukraine. Because of this, Kiev will not be able to use a virtual reverse from the Hungarian direction.
As a result, Ukraine will have to reorient reverse deliveries to Polish, Slovak and Romanian directions.
