India, as the world’s largest democratic country with a large and fast-growing economy, as well as a state pursuing a peaceful policy, can contribute to stability, development and peace in the South Caucasus. Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this during a joint press conference with Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar.
“We appreciate the principled position, as well as the continuous support for the peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Armenia has repeatedly stated that the use of force cannot be a basis for resolving the conflict. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be fully resolved through peaceful negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing, based on known principles,” Mirzoyan said.
He noted that Armenia highly appreciates the statement made by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May this year that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces should withdraw from the sovereign territory of Armenia.
“In our turn, we reaffirm the position of the Republic of Armenia in terms of supporting India in the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Our positions coincide with the fight against terrorism, extremism, the inadmissibility of transferring mercenary terrorists to conflict zones, and condemnation,” Mirzoyan said.
