According to Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Director General of the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center, restrictions in connection with the coronavirus in the country should be introduced only if necessary, Georgian media reports.
As Tsertsvadze told journalists, the restrictions would be unacceptable for the society.
“This is a very painful issue not only here, but all over the world. Look what is happening in Italy, in France, serious protests against tightening restrictions. In Georgia, the society is used to the fact that restrictions were reduced in stages. Accordingly, life returned to a normal rhythm, the economy began to work. , and therefore it will be very difficult and undesirable to re-introduce restrictions. This should only happen if necessary. Before that, I think it is much more important to tighten control over the implementation of existing regulations - to use masks, to avoid weddings, commemorations, birthdays, and the most important - vaccination!” said Tsertsvadze.
As for the trend of the spread of infection, then, as noted by Tsertsvadze, the last week there has been a tendency of obvious growth.
“After a downward trend that lasted for about a month and a half, a clear upward trend emerged in the last week. So far, this growth is not as dramatic as during the fourth wave, but still sufficient. There were over 2,000 cases reported yesterday, which is quite a lot. The number of active patients has also increased. This may be the beginning of the fifth wave, it may be temporary, and the next progression will not occur. I agree with those who say that in a week everything will become clear,” Tsertsvadze said.
