On October 12, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Armenia Mohammed Haj Ibrahim.
As reported the National Assembly of Armenia, the parliamentary speaker attached importance to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the strengthening of the mutually beneficial cooperation and expressed certainty that the to-be-established Armenia-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group will give a new signal to the deepening of bilateral relations.
Mohammed Hajj Ibrahim also touched upon the implementation of actions for further deepening of parliamentary relations and, ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, attached importance to the need to intensify reciprocal visits. He also stated that the Syrian-Armenians are an integral part of Syrian society and play a major role in public and political life in the country.
The parties touched upon Turkey’s destabilizing role in the region and, in this regard, the Ambassador considered the involvement of mercenaries and terrorists in the 44-day Nagorno-Karabakh war inadmissible and unacceptable.
Armenia’s Parliament Speaker expressed readiness to support any initiative aimed at the interests of the friendly peoples.
