Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s statement on unification with Kosovo as unacceptable, Interfax reports.
“We consider Albanian Prime Minister E. Rama’s statement on the unification of Albania and Kosovo to be absolutely unacceptable,” said the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, quoting Zakharova.
According to her, plans to create a ‘Greater Albania’ contradict the provisions of UNSCR 1244.
She added that the foreign ministry expects an adequate response to this provocation from the western guardians of the Kosovo “state” project.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandr Vučić, in a meeting with Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Botan-Kharchenko, thanked Moscow for its active support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against the backdrop of the aggravation in Kosovo.
Kosovo's independence from Serbia was declared by local ethnic Albanians in 2008. A number of countries around the world have recognized the self-proclaimed state entity, but Russia, Serbia, Greece and some other states did not.
