The French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Mer, and the Minister-Delegate for Industry at the same agency, Agnes Panet-Runache, spoke about the joint statement of ten EU countries. The states called for the development of nuclear energy, because they saw it as a solution to the gas crisis in Europe, writes Le Figaro.
The initiative has already been supported by France, Romania, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary. These countries believe that all low-carbon energy technologies need to be considered. They proposed recognizing nuclear power as a “green” industry by the end of 2021, as it “plays a crucial role in protecting the climate.”
“Rising energy prices show how important it is for us to reduce our energy dependence on foreign countries as soon as possible. It is obvious that tensions with energy supplies will become more frequent in the future,” the authors of the text urged.
According to the authors of the article, a peaceful atom ensures stability in the energy sector, as it protects consumers from price fluctuations, as well as strengthens Europe‘s independence in this area. In addition, nuclear energy can create about a million jobs and accelerate the development of European industry.
Earlier in Europe, urged not to look for those responsible for rising gas prices. The official representative of the European Commission (EC) Dana Spinant said that Europe seeks to solve the problem.
