A part of a residential building collapsed today in central Batumi, Adjara. Rescuers first released a toddler from a car trapped in the wreckage on May 26 Street, First Channel reports.
Georgia Public Broadcasting reported from the scene that the health state of a toddler was satisfactory and not life-threatening. The latest reports cite Deputy Minister of Health of Adjara Ramaz Jincharadze, who informed about another child taken out of the rubble in Batumi. GPB First Channel reports the kid was taken to the hospital.
“Work in progress. We still have no confirmed information about the victims. Two children were rescued and hospitalized. We are working hard to get the details,” said Deputy Health Minister of Adjara.
At the same time, the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze, confirms other people are trapped in the rubble. “It is a very serious case. Rescuers rescued the child, though people still are in the rubble. Everything will be done to save the people there. Rescuers established contact with the people stuck in the wreckage. The investigation will find out everything. Now the main thing is to help these people, “Tornike Rizhvadze said.
Part of a five-storey residential building on May 26 Street in Batumi collapsed earlier today. Neighbors say the building had a two-storey extension on top. The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation into the fact and is working to identify potential victims. Head of the Adjara Patrol Police told journalists that intensive rescue works are going on, and additional forces are being mobilized from neighbouring regions.
