The official welcoming ceremony for the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, took place Wednesday at the residence of the President of Italy.
The Armenian President was welcomed by his Italian colleague, Sergio Mattarella. The national anthems of Armenia and Italy were played, after which the national flag of Armenia was raised on the Quirinal Palace.
After the official part of the ceremony, a private conversation between the two presidents started, which will be followed by a meeting of the delegations in an expanded format.
Besides, the Presidents of Armenia and Italy will make a statement for the press.
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, together with his wife Nouneh Sarkissian, is in Italy on a state visit.
Presidents Armen Sarkissian and Sergio Matarella wore the ribbons of the highest state awards of the two countries, the Order of Glory of the Republic of Armenia and the Knight of the Great Cross of the Italian Republic.
They were awarded those prizes in 2018, for their significant contribution to the strengthening and development of interstate relations between the two countries.
