Prime Minster of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at the joint press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Ingrida Šimonytė in Vilnius positively assessed the recent meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in New York.
Pashinyan has reaffirmed his readiness to meet with the President of Azerbaijan, in particular, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
“Azerbaijan raises the issue of maps of minefields posing a humanitarian threat. We have transferred some of the maps. As I said yesterday, ahead of that potential meeting, I am ready to take with me all such maps, which pose a humanitarian threat and have nom limitary significance for us,” said Prime Minister Pashinyan.
“I hope that the President of Azerbaijan, in his turn, will bring with him the captives, hostages and other detainees held in Azerbaijan in a direct or indirect sense. Moreover, in this case we mean not only those whose fact of captivity has been officially confirmed, but also those of our citizens who, according to our information, are in Azerbaijan, but the fact of their captivity has not been confirmed,” the Prime Minister stated.
He emphasized that the agenda of opening a peaceful development era is not easy, but on the other hand, Pashinyan believes that peace has no alternative and this agenda should become a reality step by step.
In response to the question, when is the Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting expected, Pashinyan said: "We do not have a place and time limit, because the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs have a practice of organizing such meetings. The only logical limitation is that these meetings take place in the territory of third countries. My readiness is not new, because in recent months I have welcomed the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on the peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the principles and elements put on the table by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. I hope that under the auspices of co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group it will be possible to intensify efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
