Relations between Georgia and Ukraine are developing in the same way as before. It is unacceptable for the strategic partnership between our countries to become a hostage of one person. This is how Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani commented on the arrest of Mikhail Saakashvili, who is a citizen of the Ukraine, Georgian media reports.
“Georgia has very close ties with the Ukraine. This has been especially noticeable recently, and cooperation is developing in all areas,” Zalkaliani said.
He expressed confidence that the Georgian side will quietly and calmly make appropriate explanations on all issues, which will allow relations between Tbilisi and Kiev "to maintain a very serious dynamic."
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Kiev would provide all the necessary support to Mikhail Saakashvili, since he is their citizen. “We protect every citizen of Ukraine when he gets into trouble,” stressed the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
