During the visit to the French Republic, Vahram Dumanyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport met with Ernesto Ottone, the Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO.
Discussing a number of issues of mutual interest, Armenian ESCS Minister thanked for the permanent, continuous and effective cooperation with the UNESCO and expressed confidence that the existent mutually beneficial cooperation will expand and will lead to implementing new initiatives and ideas.
During the discussion, the cooperation in preserving the cultural heritage of Artsakh and the issues of the business trip of the technological mission of the UNESCO to Artsakh and adjacent territories were especially valued, Vahram Dumanyan reaffirmed the full support of Armenia to the implementation of the mission.
Within the meeting, the cooperation on “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” was also discussed, the protection and preservation of the cultural heritage were valued, particularly in the zones affected from the conflict.
Armenian Minister mentioned that the delegacy of the experts working on recovering the old manuscripts of the Masul, led by Archbishop Najib Mikhael, the Director of the Center for the Digitization of Archelian Manuscripts of the Chaldean Church, was in Armenia the last week and expressed hope that the cooperation will be continuous and Armenia can bring its benefit to the important work of preserving worldwide cultural heritage with its best experience.
The issues related to the current programs, in particular, the opportunities of recovering Gyumri’s historical center and the implementing program together with the UNESCO Emergency Prevention and Response Unit of rating the threatening dangers of the cultural monuments, the process of the initial list review of the Armenian worldwide heritage and also the provision of the expert support of the UNESCO within reviewing the Armenian cultural policy were discussed.
Vahram Dumanyan also thanked Ernesto Ottone for the support within the participation program and expressed hope that the cooperation of Armenia and UNESCO will be continuous in that direction.
