Singer and songwriter, Honored Artist of Armenia Hayko (Hayk Hakobyan) passed away aged 48. Chief of staff of the Yerevan State Medical University Shushan Danielyan confirmed the news to ‘Lurer’.
He had been in grave condition since September 21 after contracting Covid-19 and was being treated in Mikayelyan university hospital.
In 2006, Hayko was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia.
In 2007, Hayko represented Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Anytime You Need and took the 8th place.
He has written music for a number of films including Do Not Be Afraid, The Killed Dove, The Diary of a Cross-Stealer and others. He was named Composer of the Year in 2007, 2010 and 2011.
He also wrote the music for the films ‘Nothing Will Remain’, ‘Jubilee Customer’, ‘Dawn on the Sea of Van’, ‘Garegin Nzhdeh’.
In 2011, he was awarded the ‘Singer of the Decade’ award at the annual Armenian Music Awards in Moscow.
