The Russian Ministry of Defense responded to the inquiry of ‘Infoteca 24’ and Coordinating Council of Armenian-Russian organizations regarding the destruction of the monument to USSR Aviation Marshal Sergey Khudyakov (Armenak Khamperyants) in the village of Mets Tagher in Artsakh, which came under Azerbaijani control.
The response of the Russian Ministry of Defense, in particular, states that they share the concern of the citizens for the preservation of the historical and cultural monuments in the territory of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for the next generations.
“This issue is in the center of attention of the Russian leadership, which attaches special importance to the implementation of the provisions of the November 9, 2020 joint trilateral statement of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation.
The Russian peacekeeping contingent and the Humanitarian Response Center are directly involved in the solution of the problem, acting in close coordination with the competent bodies of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as international authorized organizations,” the response reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also responded to the inquiry of the Coordinating Council of Armenian-Russian organizations on the same topic, noting that Russia pays special attention to the preservation of historical, cultural, architectural and religious heritage in the region. Moscow assumes that it is the property of all the inhabitants of the adjacent regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, regardless of their nationality.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also assured that it was recording all cases of destruction of monuments to Soviet statesmen, including the Khudyakov monument, and expressed hope that the UNESCO mission would soon be able to visit the region.
