Immediately after the Artsakh 44-day war, a number of Armenian lawyers from LA initiated a support program for the people of Artsakh. They document the moral, cultural losses, the losses of their homeland and property and formulate it legally. For that purpose, they founded an organization called “The Center for Truth and Justice”.
Milena Mailyan – the member of “The Center for Truth and Justice”:
We understood we should not lose time but should gather facts to be able to represent those facts properly in the further international reports and lawsuits.
The American-Armenian lawyers cooperate with four Armenian universities: Slavonic, American, French and Yerevan state universities. The Artsakh State University has also joined the case. Within the two-month program The American-Armenian lawyers transfer knowledge and skills of gathering facts to the law students in this universities, after which the young lawyers meet with the victims, the families of the victims and the ones who lost their property during the 44-day war and record their histories. 150 testimonies have already been gathered. “The Center for Truth and Justice” has also sent a resident representative to Yerevan for coordinating the expanding work in place.
“The Center for Truth and Justice” already provides facts for two lawsuits. The specialists of the center mention that if they manage to gather data that some part of a drone was made in the US and the device caused death to a certain person, judicial lawsuits will also be initiated in the US. The American justice bodies will also apply for the cases of the people of Artsakh who lost their business.
These days the center presented so called “White paper” to the American Congress, which is usually sent to the congress to inform about a difficult political situation in some country.
Milena Mailyan: “We say, let our direct victims come and introduce themselves, implement congress hearings in order to listen to what happened yourself and then decide whether it is worth to support that kind of state financially.
Azeris already targeted the activity of the center. American-Armenians consider the fast, quality and professional work their best weapon.
