The “Marshal I. Kh. Baghramyan of Two Nations” composition of sculptures was unveiled during the opening ceremony held on the sidelines of an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence in Moscow and attended by Vardan Toghanyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia.
“The symbol of the day is that today we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia, and on this day, we are unveiling the monument to the great marshal, Marshal Ivan Khristoforovich Baghramyan in the Nizhegorodsky district of Moscow,” Toghanyan said.
According to him, the centuries-old relations between Armenia and Russia can be characterized as “relations of common victories, common achievements”.
Ivan Baghramyan, the grandchild of Marshal Baghramyan:
“The village of Chardakhlu has had many generals and marshals, the people of Chardakhlu have always stood out with courage.
Ivan Baghramyan remembers Marshal Baghramyan’s house in the village, which he visited during on the 40th anniversary of Patriotic War. In the ancient village of Artsakh, 12 generals, 7 heroes of USSR and more than a dozen of senior officers of Soviet Armenia were born. To this date, Chardakhlu is glorified with Marshals Baghramyan and Babajanyan. Ivan Baghramyan, together with other family members collected the stuff that belonged to him from the Museum in Moscow’s 1222 school named after Soviet and Armenian prominent commander.
During my grandfather’s life, as he told, the 95 percent of their village were Armenians and the 5 percent were Azeris. They lived in peace, without fighting. After the reconstruction of Gorbachev, everything began".
"In 1988 Azeris destroyed the bust of Marshal Baghramyan in Kirovabad, at first they filled it with paint and after they tore off the pedestal. In the village of Chardakhlu in 1989, they destroyed the monument dedicated to the 1300 soldiers who participated in the Patriotic War. Even now, they continue defiling and destroying the Armenian ancient Christian monuments and the monuments of the Patriotic War in the occupied areas of Artsakh.
The busts of USSR double hero Nelson Stepanyan, the hero of socialist labor Ivan Tevosyan, were destroyed in Shushi.
The monuments of Colonel-General Sergey Sadarov in the village of Azykh, Admiral Isakov in Hadrut, monuments dedicated to Patriotic War, the Museum of Marshal Armenak Khanperyants were destroyed.
