On September 22, Ararat Mirzoyan, the Foreign Minister of Armenia, who is in New York to participate in the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, had a meeting with Alexander Schallenberg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria.
The sides exchanged views on a number of issues on the agenda of cooperation between the two states in bilateral and multilateral platforms. The utilization of the existing potential of economic cooperation has been particularly emphasized, in this regard, highlighting the deepening of trade-economic relations, as well as intensifying contacts between the business communities of two countries.
Ararat Mirzoyan highly appreciated the position of the Austrian side regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, adding that a comprehensive and lasting settlement should be based on the guarantees of security and freedom of the people of Artsakh.
The interlocutors also underscored the importance of the preservation of the cultural heritage. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that as a result of the 44-day war, Artsakh’s Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories fell under the control of Azerbaijan needs urgent attention of the international community in order to protect it from the threat of total destruction.
The two Ministers also discussed the efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
