During the briefings at the Parliament, member of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction Andranik Kocharyan referred to the border situation.
“Azerbaijani police forces have carried out operations in the Eivazlar section of the road in recent days, which do not fit into the logic of border issues.
Police stop Iranian cars and take money from Iranian trucks. This applies only to Iranian cars. Is it a customs operation or just an illegal operation? Now it must be clarified between Iran and Azerbaijan whether these actions are within the framework of the customs point or whether they are illegal actions.
They do not refer to the movements from Zangezur to the territories of Armenia. Now the deployment of our border troops, the deployment of Azerbaijani forces, the deployment of Russian border guards in that area is a solution so that security issues do not arise, not to shoot at each other until we enter the stage where border demarcation and delimitation issues should be clarified. The construction of the road bypassing that section is underway. Of course, there are complications, because it is a difficulty for heavy vehicles. However, even today, from Kapan to Goris, that section is operated through Tatev. There is no tension at the moment, there are no queues, but it does not mean that the road problem is solved. The Government made a decision on a $ 1 billion investment program to solve the road problem,” said Andranik Kocharyan.
He states that the problem of alternative roads should have been solved in time, taking into account the security systems.
“Roads will be built, but the Azerbaijani side will cause tensions in connection with them, and our task is to find solutions. The main thing is that it does not lead to other tensions,” Kocharyan added.
