On September 8, on the second day of Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, the President of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan met with the President of the House of Representatives Eliane Tillieux and the President of the Senate of Belgium Stephanie D'Hose.
At the meeting ideas were exchanged over the dynamic and continuous development of the cooperation relations existing between the parliaments of two countries. Alen Simonyan considered remarkable the adoption of the resolution on Supporting the Initiatives of Belgium and the International Institutions aimed at the Final Settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh Conflict by the House of Representatives of Belgium on 18 December 2020 and by the Senate of Belgium on 11 December 2020.
In this context, the NA President especially stressed also the importance of the adoption of the Resolution on the Fulfilment of the Statement on Ceasefire of 9 November 2020 on the Return of Armenian Prisoners of War and Civilians Captivated in Azerbaijan of the House of Representatives of Belgium on 27 May 2021.
The Belgian counterparts especially emphasized that Belgium is concerned about lasting peace to be established in South Caucasus and expressed readiness to support Armenia in ensuring it. They highly assessed the role of the Armenian community in the society of Belgium. The sides have affirmed that they are intended to develop and deepen the Armenian-Belgian inter-parliamentary and inter-state relations on the existing friendly basis for the benefit of two countries and peoples.
