The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Artsakh Republic Arthur Tovmasyan sent a message on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the NKR proclamation.
“Dear compatriots!
September 2 marks the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Artsakh Republic (Nagorno-Karabakh). We meet it in the most difficult conditions for our country. The mood is not festive, but it is an opportunity to draw some conclusions.
The declaration of independence in September 1991 was a right historical decision by which the Armenians of Artsakh predetermined their future. The next 30 years were full of difficulties and obstacles. In the 90s, we won the war that was imposed on us, we joined the process of state-building, and although the world did not recognize Artsakh’s independence, we created a democratic country with all the state attributes.
Did we use the unique opportunity to build a state correctly, were we honest with ourselves and our generations? These are questions that are constantly before us.”
There were many mistakes. We were not ready to face the challenges of a changing world. Underestimating the adversary and incomplete diplomatic efforts played a role.
Three decades later, we must state that the declaration of independence was politically and politically incomplete. We must fix and correct the declaration of independence with our life and way of life, give up the delusion of considering it over. The Republic of Artsakh, its people and all Armenians must open a new page in the life of the Declaration of Independence every day. The conclusion of the lessons of 30 years of independent statehood is one: under the prism of new realities, Artsakh-Armenia-Diaspora unity, and togetherness of human and material resources.
The road to independence is not smooth. It takes decades. However, if there is faith and will, the impossible becomes possible.
Addressing the Armenians of Artsakh today, we call on them not to despair, to be armed with patience, we are obliged to take care of the Homeland that has come to us by the will and destiny of God. Heal the wounds and move forward, because we are responsible for generations, we are responsible for the thousands of our children who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Homeland.
We pay our respects to all the heroes who stood on the path to 30 years of independence, who firmly engraved the independence of Artsakh in an indelible record of history. We promise to be worthy of their memory and to complete the work we left unfinished. We realize the difficulties that await us, but we are determined. May God be with us,” the message of Parliament Speaker of Artsakh reads.
