A total of 127 new prisons have been opened in Turkey in the recent 6 years. And the number of new prisons operating in the recent 16 years has reached 228, Ermenihaber reports.
Currently, 357 out of every 100,000 people in Turkey are in prison; 274 816 of the prisoners are men, 11 720 are women, 1630 are children.
Despite the fact that Turkey is already the absolute leader in Europe in the number of prisoners in prisons, the country's authorities are not going to stop, new prison complexes are being built in Turkey.
According to another report, 9 prisoners in Elâzığ (Kharberd) women’s closed prison in Turkey were deprived of the opportunity to communicate and see their relatives for a month for singing in Kurdish. A disciplinary investigation has been launched against them, in the framework of which it was mentioned in the protocol that the prisoners sang songs “in an incomprehensible language.”
