Currently, 357 out of every 100,000 people in Turkey are in prison; 274 816 of the prisoners are men, 11 720 are women, 1630 are children.

According to another report, 9 prisoners in Elâzığ (Kharberd) women’s closed prison in Turkey were deprived of the opportunity to communicate and see their relatives for a month for singing in Kurdish. A disciplinary investigation has been launched against them, in the framework of which it was mentioned in the protocol that the prisoners sang songs “in an incomprehensible language.”
