On August 31, Chairman of the Armenian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan met with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation to Armenia Thierry Ribo and Head of Communication and Prevention Programs Zara Amatuni.
Issues related to the settlement of the Artsakh conflict, the return of the captives of the Armenian side and the missing were discussed at the meeting. Steps were taken to provide legal protection for the missing persons.
Eduard Aghajanyan highlighted the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the peoples should be prepared for peace. The Chairman of the commission presented to the guest in detail the steps envisaged by the Government's five-year program.
Thierry Ribo presented ICRC’s activities in the post-war period, emphasizing the organization’s coordinated work in the region through the offices in Yerevan, Baku and Nagorno-Karabakh.
He assured that ICRC is making every effort to control the conditions of detention of detainees and their treatment. Representatives of the organization regularly visit the Armenian captives and help them maintain contact with their families.
It was noted that the ICRC would continue to carry out its humanitarian mission as a neutral mediator on a number of issues, including assistance to the border population as well as the problems of the missing and their families.
