Over the past 24 hours, the United States carried out 28 military flights and evacuated about 10,400 people from Afghanistan.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the acceleration of the evacuation speed has changed partly because of the coordination efforts with the Taliban commanders, who are ensuring the transportation of the evacuees to the airport.
“In the future, this process will require coordination of actions and problem solving with the Taliban”, said Kirby.
He added that US military bases in the states of New Jersey, Virginia, Texas and Wisconsin will become a temporary shelter for evacuated Afghans. According to Kirby, the four bases together can accommodate up to 25,000 evacuees․
