The Taliban announced that they were going to capture the northeastern Afghan province of Panjshir. This region, where the vast majority of residents are ethnic Tajiks, is the only area in the country that is not under Taliban’s control.
Representatives of the Taliban reported that militants were sent to Panjshir Gorge on social media, because "local authorities refused to hand it over peacefully."
Ahmad Massoud, the leader who started the resistance movement against the “Taliban” in Panjshir, said he was ready to negotiate on forming a general government, to avoid a confrontation. At the same time, he made it clear that the forces under his control could provide armed resistance to the Taliban.
Earlier, the Taliban suppressed the resistance in the Baghlan province.
According to Afghan sources, the Taliban seized a large amount of weapons and military equipment. The Afghan army, literally not resisting the Taliban attack, left them dozens of light armored vehicles, trucks, a large amount of weapons, but the most valuable ones are the fighter jets.
There is no data on how many planes and helicopters the Taliban have currently, as it is possible that Afghan forces destroyed some of them during the retreat. It is also known that a number of servicemen left the country by planes and helicopters, trying to find refuge in neighboring countries.
However, the Taliban are believed to have enough air power to implement military operations in the region. It is still unclear to experts whether the Taliban will find personnel to service the aircraft, and most importantly, whether they will be able to lift them into the air.
The situation near Kabul airport remains tense. One Afghan security guard was killed and three others were injured in a shooting between Afghan security forces and unknown people on Monday morning.
According to the data, German and American servicemen also took part in the shootings, there are no injured among them.
US President Joe Biden said that the evacuation of US citizens and citizens of allied countries as well as Afghans who cooperated with them, continues in Afghanistan.
About 33,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan since the beginning of July, about 28,000 of which were evacuated since August 14.
