On August 20, Vahan Kerobyan, Minister of Economy received Muhametgeldi Ayazov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Armenia.
Deputy Minister Rafael Gevorgyan also took part in the meeting.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Vahan Kerobyan mentioned that the economic cooperation between Armenia and Turkmenistan was quite high in the past, but it is necessary to activate it, fully using the potential existing in both countries.
The Ambassador thanked for the meeting, congratulating on the reappointment as Minister. He also mentioned that he met with the newly appointed Ruben Kharazyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Turkmenistan and was convinced that the latter's appointment would give a new impetus to the relations between the two countries.
Both sides stressed that there is quite effective cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries. The ambassador mentioned that Armenian companies actively participate in exhibitions and business forums organized in Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, issues related to the activation of mutual trade were discussed. The parties agreed that there are wide opportunities for cooperation, especially in the fields of light industry and agriculture.
Minister Kerobyan offered to consider the possibilities of carrying out new trade deals and to provide the Armenian side with the list of goods and services of interest of the Turkmen side. Expressing gratitude for the interesting idea, the ambassador, in his turn, offered to organize a meeting for experts in the field headed by the deputy ministers of both sides. Ayazov referred to the cooperation between Armenia’s and Turkmenistan's agricultural universities, mentioning that the courses held by the specialists from the two countries are a good source of knowledge transfer and experience exchange.
The issue of holding the sitting of the Armenian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission online in the near future was discussed during the meeting.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
