“The National Interest” presented an analysis by Maya Carlin (a specialist from The Center for Security Policy, in Washington) on the situation with the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. According to the analyst, Russia and China are currently the winners of the situation.
"Moscow and Beijing will work together in the international forum’s format, where the American position will not be represented. The other countries that can also benefit from the situation in Afghanistan are Iran and Qatar", said Carlin.
According to the author, Russia and China are trying to weaken the power of the United States and stimulate their economies.
The European Parliament also expressed concerns about the growing influence of Russia and China in Afghanistan. Europe anticipates that Moscow and Beijing will try to fill the political vacuum that appeared.
Earlier it was reported that Afghanistan needs economic support, which will force the Taliban to fulfill their obligations to Russia and China. In order to achieve that, the Taliban must reduce the heroin trade, relying on farmers’ subsidies from these countries.
The US activity in Central Asia is also unacceptable for Russia. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in an interview to “The Wall Street Journal” clarified Moscow's position on the US presence in Central Asia.
"Any form of US military presence in Central Asia contradicts Moscow's interests and does not contribute to the security of the region," said the diplomat.
