In the Turkish parliament Deputy of the Turkish Parliament from the opposition pro-Kurdish Peoples ' Democratic Party Garo Paylan presented the topic of the destruction of the Armenian cemetery in Ankara, writes Ermenihaber.
The Member of Parliament reminded that the Armenian cemetery belonging to the Armenian churches Holy Savor and Forty Children (located in the Sincan district of Ankara) is part of the historical and cultural heritage of the capital. In the 90s it was declared a specially protected area.
Meanwhile, it again became a target for treasure hunters and constantly is being looted and destroyed. This is very insulting for the Armenian community of Turkey.
Referring to the information appeared in the press, Palyan told that in the last couple of days the treasure hunters unearthed a number of graves of the Hellenistic era and scattered the bones of people.
Palyan wanted to clarify with the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Mehmet Ersoy what measures are being taken to preserve the Armenian cemeteries.
By the way, the cemetery which is 30 km away from the center of Ankara, does not need protection only from treasure hunters. Local residents use part of its territory for picnics.
