Alen Simonyan, the President of the Parliament of Armenia received the delegation led by Francisco Bustillo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
"Regardless of the fact that Armenia and Uruguay are in excessive geographical distance, the relations between our countries and people have never suffered from it", Alen Simonyan emphasized.
Alen Simonyan expressed satisfaction with the opening of the Consulate General of Uruguay in Yerevan in 2019, which is a strong impetus for bilateral cooperation.
The NA President also welcomed the opening of the Uruguayan Embassy in Armenia in the near future.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Uruguayan Foreign Minister informed that this is his first visit to Armenia. The guest spoke about the need to develop bilateral relations.
Alen Simonyan expressed confidence that a representative group with Uruguay will be formed in the near future.
Referring to the process of recognizing the Armenian Genocide, Alen Simonyan stated:
"Everyone in Armenia knows that Uruguay is the first country to recognize the Armenian Genocide."
In this context, Francisco Bustillo informed that yesterday he visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial and made a note in the Book of Honorary Guests. He noted that the history of Armenia can be summed up in two words: pain and hope.
"Pain that the Armenian people have faced throughout history, but hope for a wonderful future that awaits the Armenian people," the guest added.
The parties also spoke about the large Armenian community in Uruguay, emphasizing its role in strengthening Armenian-Uruguayan ties.
