The export of honey from Armenia to the USA, Belgium, Canada, Japan, Great Britain, Suriname, Russia, Oman has increased considerably. Number of exporters has also increased: currently 11 companies export honey from Armenia in different directions.
Georgy Avetisyan, Head of the Food Safety Inspection Body From January 1, 2021 up till now about 65 tons of honey was exported to 8 countries. There are new countries we started exporting honey to. In 2020, only 19 tons of honey was exported.In 2019 Armenia and China established identification for veterinary certificates, and Armenian honey was exported also to China. Years ago, due to some problems in honey exports, it was banned by the Chinese side. Currently, two exporting companies are registered in the list of exporters. There is a hope that in the near future we’ll be able to export fish to European countries.
Georgy Avetisyan - Every year we monitor honey and fish – to detect residual substances. This allowed us to start exporting honey to Europe. We hope we can also start fish exports in the near future. According to estimates, there are 237 thousand beehives in Armenia and about 3500-4000 tons of honey is produced annually. Armenian honey is considered multi flower pollen, says a Primary agricultural product specialist from RA Ministry of Economy. Young people began to engage in beekeeping. State assistance programs have also aroused interest in this field.
Tigran Aleksanyan, Deputy Head of the Department of Primary Agricultural Products, Ministry of Economy of RA. By the leasing, the beekeepers are provided with equipment worth up to 1 billion drams. This option is better because the obtained equipment becomes a deposit subject. In both cases, with leasing and with subsidiary conditions, the money is given interest-free, says a field specialist.
