The Russian military personnel of the peacekeeping contingent ensured the safety of the residents of the Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh when harvesting grain crops near the line of demarcation of the sides.
”Today's goal is to ensure the safety of harvesting operations. Cleaning work is carried out in Askeran region and will be carried out within a week. These works are carried out in the vicinity of the demarcation line, therefore our presence is necessary,” said Igor Sergeyev, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
Wheat harvesting in remote areas of Nagorno-Karabakh began with a delay, after Russian sappers cleaned agricultural land for explosives and cleared unexploded ordnance.
“We collect wheat, we don't have a lot of areas, but we process what is there. Thanks to the Russian peacekeepers for ensuring our security. Autumn work will begin soon, we hope to continue to help the peacekeepers,” said Suren Babayan, a resident of Askeran region.
With the harvesting of fields in the Askeran district, the wheat harvest in Nagorno-Karabakh will be almost completed, but local residents are already turning to the Humanitarian Response Center in order not to disrupt the sowing operations.
