The Japanese Government opposes wars and the settlement of international disputes through military force. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Fukushima Masanori stated this.
“Japan has expressed its deep concern and condolences to Armenia over the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This war and conflict have deep roots. However, such a conflict cannot be resolved through war. We must look for peaceful ways. On behalf of Japan, I can say that war is unacceptable,” says Fukushima Masanori, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia.
By the way, the principle of inadmissibility of the settlement of international disputes through the use of threats and military force is enshrined in the Japanese Constitution. Speaking about the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan during the Second Artsakh War, the Ambassador referred to the tragic episodes of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, emphasizing that Japan is well aware of the impact and consequences of the war.
“Japan knows very well what war is, we have felt the power of the atomic bomb, the damage and pain of war Japan understands very well,” says Fukushima Masanori.
From May 12 until today, the ambassador expressed his personal position on the provocations leading to the escalation of the situation in different parts of the border by the Azerbaijani troops, violating the territorial integrity of Armenia.
“At the moment I cannot comment on behalf of the Government, but as a personal position, it is unacceptable to me,” Fukushima Masanori says.
Considering the non-fulfillment of the commitments of the November 9, 2020 trilateral statement undertaken by Azerbaijan to return of Armenian prisoners of war, other detainees, fake trials, the Ambassador of Japan noted, that it is necessary to follow the international charter and international human rights.
The ambassador also touched upon the Armenian-Japanese relations.
“From 2018, the Japanese Government has developed a new program of relations with Armenia. The relationship has entered a qualitatively new phase and it continues to develop. As an ambassador, I will do my best to make all the plans a reality,” Fukushima Masanori says.
