The actions of the country’s authorities in the fight against devastating wildfires in the south-west of Turkey are being criticized more and more, Der Spiegel reports.

The daily says that there are no firefighting planes in Turkey, which makes the country dependent on foreign aid. Turkey has "leased" firefighting planes from Russia. In addition, planes were sent to Spain and Croatia. Turkey has also received assistance from Iran, Azerbaijan and the Ukraine.
In Ankara, their own incompetence is perceived as a disgrace. According to the citizens, if steps had been taken from the very beginning, the disaster would not have reached this scale.
Forest fires have been raging in Turkey for ten days now. The fire on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts has burned tens of thousands of hectares. Eight people died as a result of the fire, thousands of tourists and residents were evacuated from the disaster zone.
