Congressman Adam Schiff, known for his pro-Armenian stance, considers the bill passed by the US House of Representatives to deprive Azerbaijan of military aid a victory. At the same time, he emphasizes that it still needs to be approved by the Senate and the President of the country. Speaking about the tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the Congressman emphasized the growing role of the OSCE Minsk Group and the development of Armenian-American relations, Voice of America reports.
“I believe we should not finance a country where human rights are violated, which threatens regional security and peace. Besides, due to the violations of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan, a worrying situation has been created on the border, unfortunately, there have been casualties in recent days.”
The bill passed by the House of Representatives has yet to go through several stages. The Congressman notes that if it is approved by the President and the Senate, it can be preserved for years to come. It should be noted that the recently adopted bill refers to the financing of the coming budget year.
“Hopefully, it will succeed in the Senate. As a rule, we have seen over the years that such projects are not approved by the Senate, but we must fight for the final success of the bill with the same content. This is the first bill with this content, which is approved by the House of Representatives.”
Schiff presented his views on the intensification of the role of the OSCE Minsk Group to the National Security Adviser to State Secretary Blinken and the US President. According to him, the Minsk Group should offer practical solutions to all parties.
“Final peace must be established in that region, and the Minsk Group must play a significant role here. The humanitarian crisis has not disappeared after the war, people must have security guarantees to return to their homes. We are deeply concerned about the recent border tensions. This conflict must be finally resolved.”
Congressman Adam Schiff stated that he will continue to support all pro-Armenian initiatives, emphasizing in this context the $1 million recently provided by the federal government with his support for the construction of the Armenian-American Museum.
