The Kremlin is aware of the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and it is working with the parties, Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated, RIA Novosti reports.
“We know that the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border escalated yesterday. And you know that the Russian representatives have made great efforts to restore the ceasefire. The work continues,” Peskov told reporters when asked if Moscow was ready to defend Armenia’s border and was not afraid of deteriorating relations with Azerbaijan.
Peskov noted that Russia continues contacts with Yerevan and Baku to ensure the implementation of all provisions of the trilateral statement.
Asked by reporters how he would comment on the Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s proposal to deploy Russian border guards’ bases along the border, Peskov said. “Contacts with Yerevan continue. I have nothing else to add.”
