Speaking about environmental issues, Iran’s outgoing President Hassan Rouhani said that in the field of environment, we should cooperate with countries and neighbors in the region, IRNA reported. According to him, a number of urgent issues concern neighboring countries, for example, some neighbors do not observe the principle of justice in the use of river water.
“If only one country uses the two great and mighty rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates, and the land downstream dries up, the consequences will affect the neighboring countries, that is, us. When reservoirs are built in a country east of us, and water does not reach the Hamun Lake, an environmental problem arises,” Rouhani said.
His dissatisfaction with the unfair use of river water is directed at Turkey, which is known to build large reservoirs on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
