U.S. President Joe Biden should pressure Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to halt his provocative actions on Cyprus, particularly over the fenced-off resort town of Varosha, a bipartisan group of 14 U.S. senators said,
Ahval reports.
Biden should impose sanctions on the Turkish government if the warnings go unheeded, the senators, who included Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez, Marco Rubio and Chris Van Hollen, said in a letter to Biden on Wednesday.
“We urge you to work in tandem with the European Union to make clear, in advance, that any attempt by Turkey to support the resettlement or reopening of Varosha will be met by multilateral sanctions,” they said.
