Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited the captured Armenians in Baku. Zara Amatuni, head of the organization's communication programs in Armenia, told Lurer that as a neutral mediator, she continues to pay regular visits to Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) and civilians held in Azerbaijan.
The International Committee of the Red Cross does not publish statistics on Armenian captives in Azerbaijan.
After the return of 15 Armenian captives on July 3, Azerbaijan now confirms the captivity of 45 people.
“The next visit of ICRC representatives to the Armenian captives in Azerbaijan took place in late June and early July,” says Zara Amatuni, Head of Communication Programs of the ICRC Delegation in Armenia.
It is noteworthy that the visits took place to persons whose captivity was officially confirmed by the Azerbaijani authorities. During these visits, all the captured Armenians were given the opportunity to record video messages for their families, as well as make phone calls and use the opportunity to write letters.
