Four Georgian TV stations have stopped broadcasting for 24 hours in protest against the government. TV companies TV Pirveli, Mtavari TV, Formula and Kavkasia demand the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and punishment for all offenders involved in July 5 anti-LGBT violence in Tbilisi, during which more than 50 media representatives were assaulted, including cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, who later on was found dead at home, Georgian Journal reports.
At the moment, the screens of four TV stations list demands and names of journalists who were assaulted during the July 5 events. The demands written in red reads: "Garibashvili must resign! All offenders must be punished!"
For information, following the death of cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, media representatives held two rallies in front of the parliament demanding the resignation of the government.
Five people have been detained for the assault on Lekso Lashkarava and Miranda Baghaturia (journalist working alongside the late cameraman). Four of them have already been sentenced to imprisonment as a measure of restraint.
