On July 11, three citizens in Turkey went up to the Armenian Church in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul. On the wall of the entrance to the Surp Takavor Armenian Church they started dancing around the cross, playing loud music, Ermenihaber reports.
The video of the incident appeared on the Internet and was severely criticized and reprimanded by the representatives of the Armenians of Turkey and other Christian communities.
In response to these criticisms, the Istanbul Governor’s Office said that the Prosecutor General’s Office had launched an investigation into the incident and that the three citizens who had shown contempt for the Armenian Church had been arrested.
However, shortly after the arrest, it became known that they had been released after taking confessions at the police. Two of them were placed under house arrest.
