The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the resolution adopted at the July 8 plenary session of the European Parliament, which states that pressure is being exerted on opposition parties in Turkey, especially the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party, Ermenihaber reports.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry described the resolution as an expression of hypocrisy and insisted that the content of the report did not reflect the truth. It was also mentioned that the resolution might have a negative impact on Turkey-EU relations.
A resolution passed by the European Parliament has called for a halt to lawsuits over the suspension of the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party, saying that some 4,000 members of the party have been jailed, and a possible closure of the People's Democratic Party would be a serious political blow to diversity and democracy as a result of which millions of voters in Turkey will not have a representative.
